Sonata
by Samuel Sighicelli and Benjamin de la Fuente
With Claudine Simon (piano), Constance Ronzatti (violin), Benjamin de la Fuente (augmented violin) and Samuel Sighicelli (electronic keyboards)
DESCRIPTION
SONATA is a creation for two duos – violin/piano and prepared violin/electronic keyboards – performed simultaneously in two distinct settings. Violinist Constance Ronzatti and pianist Claudine Simon play Edvard Grieg’s Sonata n°3 Op 45 in a concert venue, while the music is transmitted live to violinist Benjamin de la Fuente and pianist Samuel Sighicelli in a nearby room. There, they delve into the sound material produced by practically the same instruments in augmented, diminished and extended versions, as they explore, reinterpret, and counterbalance the repertoire piece.
In this space, audience members are equipped with wireless audio headsets that allow them to fully enter the sound.
On the one hand, the beauty of gesture inscribed in aesthetic history is seen and heard in its most direct form; and on the other, the versatility of the present plunges us into the piano/violin sonic matter with its contemporary extension and resonance, in a sort of poetic laboratory.
